17/04/2010. Hi everyone! This is what's going on on Tuesday night please read....
We'll start with the Haiti show. It begins at half 8 but we would like everyone involved in the show to be there at half 6 for last minute practice and blocking it etc. So if you can be there at that time or as soon as you can please that would be great.
Dress rehearsals for the show are at 7PM SUNDAY EVENING. I urge you to be there if you can, dress rehearsals are essential to any show. And I would give the rehearsals about three hours of your time. We're perfectionists!
Dress rehearsals mean you must have your costume on that day. That means for my Hip-Hop class I want black pants, and red and white on top. For Jenny's jazz she would like black and a colour of your choice, but in 80's styles: leg warmers, headbands, sweatbands etc. Don't take the piss, make it look like what you would have worn to an audition in the 80's! For the concluding Haiti piece to finish off the show, Christelle would like everyone to be wearing plain white on top and black on bottom for a clean look off everyone on stage. This piece is to Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley and is just to remind people that what we're doing is for Haiti. As for the Intervarsity pieces, make sure you have exactly what you wore on the day of the competition, that's including the hoodie's sewed to the bras (!) and the hair and make up if you can. We expect everyone to treat this rehearsal as professionally as they can and to respect that there will be about 30 people to organise on stage so to listen and follow instructions as best as you can.
So the show is €2.50 to enter but there will be buckets for further donations, we expect that the more you enjoy the dances the more you will contribute! Please bring anyone and everyone you can along. And there will be a raffle halfway through where we will be giving one on one dance classes to the winners! :)
And after that we will be herding you to the Stables where our Slave auction will take place! Please be nice and bid generously in aid of the Dance Club because I'm one of the people being sold and if nobody bids on me my self esteem will suffer greatly for it! :P
And then after this we will be herding all of you to Molly's! This is our Dance Club night out so EVERY SINGLE MEMBER AND EVERY SINGLE MEMBER'S FRIEND IS WELCOME!
So that's it I think for all your information, if you have any questions please feel free to ask,
Thanks guys, looking forward to a great night out with you all,
Rachel
Vice President

These were the dreaded words to be heard by Dance UL’s four squads that entered in the Dance Intervarsity’s held in Carlow IT this past Thursday (11th March).
But as 28 nervous UL students awaited the result, little were they to know that they would beat the other five colleges for 1st prize in not one category, but in THREE!
After six months of brainstorming ideas, choreographing, injured dancers, organising, rehearsing into the early hours many a night, not to mention cage building...yes, a cage!, Dance UL showed on the day that a bit of hard work pays off well in the end. Dance Captains; Jennifer Brown (Mixed), Rita Mc Donnell (Hiphop), Christelle Olivier-Dussault (Overall-jazz) and Ciara Faber (Irish dance) made sure their squads brought everything to the table on the day. With a mixture of choreography from both captains and dancers on the squads the standard of these dances were outstanding to watch and partake in.
But the results were in...Winning 1st place in the Irish dance, Overall (jazz) and Hiphop categories and a 3rd in the Mixed category, the sultry James Bond side to our native dance style, sexy, jazziness of the 1940s, badass girl street image and fantastically wild craziness that is the circus wowed the judges and brought the entire arena to a standing ovation at the end of UL’s final performance in the Mixed category.
Carlow IT then hosted a great night out in the Foundry club where our very own lil hip-hopper Rachel Sheil begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting, made it to the final of a dance battle running up against two b-boys from Carlow. Exhausted, excited, a bit sore, but triumphant, the squads packed up their trophies, bags and cage and shipped themselves back home to Limerick to a warm bed for a great night’s sleep. All in all a worthwhile bit of work for a much deserved result!
Congratulations to all the dancers and a big thanks to our friends who pitched in helping prepare for the day.
Dance UL can proudly sum them up in one word this year, unstoppable!
Jennifer Brown
President
